Head Coach
The Head Coach maintains coaching standards and directs all practices and coaches. He/she is a member of the board and makes final decisions regarding practice policies. All concerns and questions should be directed to him/her.
Age Group Coaches
Each age group will have one lead or Age Group Coach. You do not need to have experience to coach. Training, advice and support are available throughout the season. This age group coach will be responsible for organizing and running practices, organizing their age group at meets and
directing Assistant Coaches and Assisting Parents.
The involvement of all the parents within an age group is the key to a successful, stress-free season. Parents within the group will assist with record keeping, ribbons and group administration.
Assistant Age Group Coaches
In order to give our athletes the individual coaching needed, each age group needs at least two or three assistant coaches, depending on the group’s size. More volunteer help at practices ensures the coaches don’t become overwhelmed and that the athlete gets better direction. Assistants’ responsibilities include assisting in the running of practices and assisting in the directing of age group athletes at meets.
Again, experience is not needed. It is not required for you to be at all practices to assist in coaching. Effective practicing takes many bodies. Whether you can be there for one or all three of the practices, you are needed. An example of assistant coaching can be as simple as calling out times to athletes with a stopwatch.
Specialty Coaches
We use Specialty Coaching in an effort to give each athlete at every age group specialized instruction. These positions are very important to the progress of the athletes, as they will receive individual instruction in the field in which they most excel. Although some knowledge and/or experience are needed to be a specialty coach, you need not be an expert. Having more than one Specialty Coach per area allows the coaches to work one-on-one more often. The following are the Specialty Fields:
Sprints: 100m -- 200m - 400m
Hurdles: 80m & 100m
Distance Team: Middle - 800m & 1500m; Long Distance - 3000m & Cross Country
