BREAKFAST
The athletes should eat a light breakfast healthy breakfast. Granola, oats, or low sugar cereal served with fruit (bananas are great). Don’t send your athlete to the meet on an empty stomach. Your child needs to run on good fuel for good results. If your child runs out of fuel, the engine stops.
Always bring water. Light sandwiches, light healthy snacks (power bars, granola bars) and fruit to eat during the day. If your child eats light, they should be able to eat within 30 minutes of a race.
Be wary of the snack shacks. Contrary to what your child might tell you, a coke, fries and hot dog do not comprise a good pre-race meal.
EVENT TAGS
The athletes should get their tags immediately upon arriving at the meet. These tags are to be worn for all events. Athletes checking in to running events without tags will not be allowed to run. The tags will be passed at one of the white United tents.
Gremlins are allowed to compete in a maximum of three events. All other age groups are allowed to compete in a maximum of three individual events, plus one relay event.
WARM-UP
A proper warm-up is critical to an athlete achieving their potential. The coaches will try to gather the athletes together 15-20 minutes before the running events for a group warm-up. However, if a group warm-up is not conducted the athletes should take it upon themselves to conduct a proper warm-up. The athletes should also make sure they warm up properly before the field events.
EVENT CHECK IN
Athletes should listen carefully for the announcer’s call of all races. There will be three calls for each event. It is not the responsibility of the Age Group Coach to find athletes for their events. The athletes need to pay attention to the calls.
FIELD EVENTS: Athletes should check in at the appropriate field event upon hearing “first call” of that event.
RUNNING EVENTS: Athletes should report to the staging area for their running event upon hearing “second call”.
Running events take precedence over field events. After the 2nd call for a running event, athletes should check out with the field event judge and proceed to the staging area to check in for their running event. The athletes must return to the field event within 5 minutes after finishing their race, or they may not be allowed to complete the event.
