Track means running to get our athletes into shape. Therefore, it is very important to attend practices. The athletes should try to attend most practices. The intensity of the workouts will continue to increase during the early part of the season and unless the athletes attend practice regularly they will have a hard time keeping up and will not reach their potential. The real downside being that a child might get turned off to this wonderful sport because it will seem too hard. We have 3-4 weeks of practice before our meets start for conditioning and training. It is very important for the athletes to arrive on time to practice.
Please note that ALL of the track athletes “feel the pain” the first week or two of practice, but they will quickly get in good condition and will tolerate the practices well.
LOCATION & TIMES
All practices are at the Agoura High School track. Weekday practices are from 5:30-7:00 and Saturday practices are from 9-11.
DROP-OFF
Please do not climb fences. Practices start and end promptly. Each child must check in and out with the coach. Please be courteous to the coaches by not being late to pick-up your child. Two late pick-ups and you will be required to wait for your child. NOTE: Gremlins must be picked up on the field by an adult.
RAIN
Track is a rain or shine sport. Having said that, if it rains heavily, we might have to cancel a practice. When it rains, call the club hot line at (805) 497-2350 for cancellation information. If it does not say the practice is canceled, we will be there. Track meets held on rubber/tartan tracks will be run rain or shine, but check the hot line when in doubt.
CLOTHING & WATER
The athletes should wear shorts (no jeans) and a loose T-shirt. Children must also bring warm-ups (sweat pant & sweatshirt) to all practices and meets. Label all clothing. Water is very important. Please send a large bottle of water to all practices and meets. Your child should have a track bag for carrying water, warm-ups, spikes, etc. to and from practices and meet
